Wichita Mountains

About two weeks ago, Kevin and I felt like exploring the country. We took a trip to Wichita Mountains in Oklahoma, which is about two hours drive from where we live. It was a nice warm Saturday so it seemed like a lot of fun. I’ve been longing for nature walks and exploring new places for a long time. Kevin had previously looked the directions up on the internet so we wouldn't get lost. And off we went. After we reached the Meers, we accidentally took the wrong way, thanks to my disorientation skills that led us to a private camp. So we came back to the Meers, decided to take a brake, shared a gigantic Meersburger and then tried what we thought was the right way. The mountains looked amazing. It has been four months since I left my home country and I miss mountains. The country reminded me of western movies that we used to watch back home. The river, spiky bush, stony ground, cacti…. It was an awesome experience. There are a few trails that you can take while in the mountains. We just took the short one, “the Kite trail” as we arrived late; still, it was a nice experience. After that, we decided to drive up the Mountain Scott which offered us a breathtaking view at the surrounding areas. On our way back we couldn't miss the "Holy City". Unfortunately, not all the sights were accessible due to Easter play rehearsal that day. Still, to me it looked quite interesting to see the "holy" places without actually having to go to all the way to Jerusalem (I only had to go to America :). That was our last stop and we started our journey back home to Wichita Falls. Forgot to mention one thing, we also saw a herd of buffalo and the calves grazing. That was a nice surprise! Here are some pictures from our trip. Can't wait to explore some more!!

As time goes by...

It's been a very loooong time since we wrote our last post. Kevin and I were in the Czech Republic back then, getting ready to finally fly to Texas. Well, believe it or not, now we're here, all settling down, still getting to know new members of family and friends. It's been lot of fun and wonderful experience. I (Katerina) love it here so far. We managed to visit some places here in Texas and it is amazing to see how different Texas can be from my home country and still so beautiful. I think every country has its own beauty that its people should be proud of. Thank to my new wonderful family who helped me go through the first days in this new place, I feel like home already.

Folk Festival

Yesterday was our 7th month anniversary, so we went to see a movie. We watched Ocean's 13. It was very good. We both thought it was better than the second movie, but still not as good as the first. On Saturday, we went to a czech folk festival. It was very interesting. The folk music and dancing was intersting, but also there were many people useing old traditional crafting skills to create many things. One man was making flutes out of pieces of wood and bone. He would pick up something that looked like nothing more than a stick and then make music come out of it that was unbelievable. There were others who made smoked cheese, traditional clothing, and also various kinds of folk art. What was really cool, is that there was also a group from america who performed american folk music. Here is video of a czech folk dance and also an american one.
